Spy's Rally (Meet The Spy's Original Monologue)
This track was written as a part of a media restoration project which aimed to recreate an animation based on an unused voice clip from Dennis Bateman, the voice actor for Team Fortress Two's spy character. My role in the project was to write an original track that did not detract too much from the monologue whilst also maintaining a suspenseful yet hopeful atmosphere, as well as providing some subtle sound design for the clip. The project was coordinated by Shork, with animation provided by AltraNade.
Mann Co Melodies Music Kit - Polybrow's Tracks (TF2)
A series of tracks and stingers written for a hypothetical Team Fortress Two music kit, in collaboration with Pumodi. It features an adaptive music track for the payload gamemode, as well as multiple sound cues for events such as capturing a control point, losing or winning the round, etc.
"The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" Fan-made Trailer Score
A track written to experiment with two contrasting compositional styles and the transition between them. It features distorted instruments and SFX in its first half, with a more traditional orchestral media score featuring in the second half.
Incursion - A 2B2T Overture
Written for the Liverpool University Symphony Orchestra's 2019 Composition Competition and performed by the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in July 2022. It is inspired by the Minecraft anarchy server 2builders2tools, following the story of a fight between two players atop a derelict castle.
Infiltrator - TFConnect 2022 Soundtrack
An energtetic track written for the TFConnect 2022 winter charity event, featuring live saxophone by Bill Johnson. The track takes inspiration from the rock band and orchestral writing featured in the Team Fortress Two soundtrack.
2B2T Chronicles - Main Theme
Written for Season Two of an online webseries documenting the earlier years the Minecraft anarchy server "2builders2tools". Pre-established motifs from Season One are interwoven into the score.
Queen's Gambit - Speed Chess
A rescoring of the "Speed Chess" scene from Queen's Gambit, written entirely using unpitched percussion.
The Legend of Vox Machina - Whispers at the Ziggurat
A rescoring of a scene from the climax of S1, E11 of The Legend of Vox Machina. The ensemble mostly relies on the orchestra, but the various synthlines added throughout represent the magical powers seen on-screen.
Team Fortress 2020
A recreation of a theme I had previously written based off a fan-concept inspired by the game Team Fortress Two. It is inspired by the Halloween / sci-fi tracks present in the Team Fortress Two soundtrack as well as common tropes found in scores from sci-fi movies such as Back To The Future.
Critical Role Campaign 3, Episode 3 - Imogen's Dream
A score written to accompany a scene from the third episode of Critical Role's third campaign. It is meant to emphasise the sudden and dangerous change of mood from a peaceful dream to a dire, life or death situation.
Electronic
Hatsune Miku Goes To The Pride Parade【初音ミク】
Written in celebration of pride month 2024. This track uses exciting, boppy retro synthesisers beneath the exciting and vibrant vocals of the Vocaloid character Hatsune Miku.
TFConnect 2023 - Medic!, Beyond The Core and The Ascent
Three, synth-heavy tracks written for TFConnect's 2023 winter event, inspired by genres such as darksynth. Medic! is an action-packed, energetic remix of the TF2 track of the same name; Beyond The Core featured as the hype-filled "countdown" track during the event's opening segments; and The Ascent reuses themes and melodic ideas used from previous year's tracks in an epic, nostalgic, and climactic finale to the OST.
Ambient track inspired by Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver
A track written to experiment with the soundfonts found in earlier Pokémon games. Intended to be a serene, relaxing track that still carries the sense of progression and adventure found within the story of Pokémon.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles Unused Song - "Play Place Zone / McNugget Zone"
A collaborative music-based project featuring Chillin Creative. Meant to imitate the style of music found in early sonic games in an attempt to create an immersive, fake "lost media" experience detailling the forgotten story of a failed cross-promotional Sonic level.
Fall of Arcanum
Combining orchestral writing with electronic and augmented sounds, this track is meant to capture the ominous, otherworldly yet bittersweet mood of a magical society collapsing in a catastrophic calamity.
Cat Nap
A light-hearted, relaxing and whimsical track made as a secret santa gift for a friend. The track acts as a lullaby with the lead synth being derived entirely from the noises of a cat (MeowSynth). The accompanying instrumentes are made up from a variety of retro game soundfonts, in an attempt to evoke a relaxing sense of nostalgia. Many who have listened to this track (As well as its "slowed, reverbed" hour-long alternative track) have talked about the positive impact it had on their sleep!
Glare's Garish Jingle - Minecraft Mob Vote 2021
This track is meant to characterise the gloomy, quirky and shy personality seen by the Glare in the 2021 Minecraft Mob Vote. It uses primarily instruments found in the New Super Mario Bros. DS soundfont.
Main Theme from April Fool Horse's Horse Facts
Written for a tongue-in-cheek online miniseries. It is meant to transition from a quirky, slightly dissonant, retro-inspired tune into a disturbing and uncomfortable score.
Dancin Down the Allay - Minecraft Mob Vote 2021
This track imitates the child-like, joyous personality seen in the 2021 Minecraft Mob Vote by the Allay. It uses a combination of softer retro instruments as well as samples from the Minecraft note block.
【新しい BRAND NEW】- #SameLyricNewSong July 2023
Written for Endicott's "Same Lyric, New Song" collaboration. The song utilises Vocaloid / Piapro Studio's "Hatsune Miku" voicebank and features a backing track that blends retro instruments and synthesisers with a peppy bass and percussion inspired by 808 EDM drums.
Copper Bop - Minecraft Mob Vote 2021
A track meant to capture the mood of the Copper Golem, showcased in the Minecraft 2021 Mob Vote. It uses soundfonts and retro sounds to imitate the noises made by a whirring robotic engine, whilst also encapsulating the small and friendly personality portrayed by the character in the vote.
Sound Design
Meet The REAL Sniper
In collaboration with Shork and featuring the Sniper from Team Fortress Two's voice actor, John Patrick Lowrie. I was tasked with recreating and embellishing the soundscape found in the original Meet The Sniper video, requiring me to use sound effects from the original Team Fortress Two files, create my own SFX with foley etc.
I made a full analysis into the work I did on the video, which can be found on my YouTube channel.
Interlude: The Harms That Pass Between Them
Released as a part of the Among the Stacks podcast for World Audio Drama day. The soundscape for this episode is meant to immerse the listener in the environment of a mad scientist's lab, with grotesque surgical noises and hints of sci-fi body horror. Many of the sounds for this episode were made using foley, with only a few sounds being sourced from external sound libraries before being heavily modified to create the atmosphere of a cramped surgical lab. Effects such as EQ (low-pass filters, creating a radio/recording device effect, etc.), aural distortion, and automation of reverb and panning were key in the shaping of this soundscape.
Wallace & Gromit - Curse of the Wererabbit
A recreation of the sound design found in Curse of the Wererabbit, using a combination of sound assets found online and sounds recorded through foley. This provided a unique challenge, as there were many unnatural events that required a combination of differently sourced sounds (e.g. the title text, mechanical noises combined with stone grinding and wood creaking, etc.).
Exhibits at a Museum
An interactive exhibitation I created using a collection of pre-made assets and models on Unity, combined with FMOD integration to provide an immersive soundscape. As well as customisable and dynamic music, all of the sound design was recorded using a combination of foley techniques (e.g. combining multiple creaking sounds to create the boat swaying, rolling and rattling sounds to imitate a cart being moved, etc.).
Other Media
Sounds of Source - A Loveletter to Source Machinima
A critically acclaimed video essay discussing the application of found sound, mashup and parody in pieces of media using games built on Valve's Source engine. It features interviews with creators within the Source Machinima field, such as Jeff "Pumodi" Brice and Ceno0, as well as several rescores and sound design exercises conducted by myself to explore the application of sound in these pieces of media. The video aims to shed light on an understudied area of music and Machinima academia, and to explain how this media has affected the communities they're made in.
April Fools Horse - Season Two
warning: this entry contains content that may be vulgar or otherwise shocking to read.
The return of my jokey analogue miniseries that took place over the course of April 1st 2024, hosted on my own Twitter account. A series that combines horror, comedy and absurdity as an uncannily humanoid horse attempts to deliver news bulletins with varying accuracy. For me, this was a fun exercise in less conventional composition styles and sound design techniques (glitching, distortion etc). The series ends on quite the cliffhanger!
April Fools Horse - Season One
warning: this entry contains content that may be vulgar or otherwise shocking to read.
A short series that took place over the course of April 1st 2022, hosted on my own Twitter account. It was a tongue-in-cheek series made to imitate the "analogue horror" tropes prominent on the internet at the time as well as mirroring the bizarre and often crude humour seen on social media. It also briefly touched upon topics concerning "artist versus creation" and how the latter can affect the former. There are plans for the project to return for future seasons in subsequent years.
