About
Amber "Polybrow" Hooton is a multimedia audio designer and composer with a MA (distinction) in Music and Audiovisual Media from the University of Liverpool. Amber's musical roots lie in the world of British brass banding, having played the Euphonium for over a decade, as well as in small online videogame communities, for which she has written countless soundtracks. Amber’s compositional repertoir encompasses everything from symphonic concert hall works to nostalgic retro tracks full of ‘bleeps’ and ‘bloops’.
Amber enjoys contributing audio to a wide variety of projects, whether in-person/local or online/international. In early 2025, she worked closely with St Luke's Bombed Out Church and Focal Studios to provide composition and audio design for their Legends of Spring Chinese New Year show. Amber’s online work encompasses a number of community projects, such as audio design for the GoodPods top-100 horror anthology series Among the Stacks, musical contributions for independent videogame modding projects such as Creators.TF and Pre-Fortress Two, and audio work for YouTube content creators such as Shork. As well as working on her freelance media projects, Amber also volunteers as audio lead for TFConnect, an online charity event supporting the BAFTA-winning SpecialEffect.
Amber’s concert music has been featured by ensembles including Kings Award recipients Valley Brass Band Haydock (supported by the Victoria Wood Foundation and Johnson Foundation), the RNCM Junior Brass Band, the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Society, the Liverpool University Symphony Orchestra, and the Solem Quartet.
